I am open to opinions but using hoplites to hold the line and javs for killing was the best I could manage. Pelasts destroy other ranged units and their fire special is also pimp morale busting awesomeness Which is what you will be up against early doors and beat skirmishers, I ran and at turn 50 are still running 50% spears and 50% javs. The way I decided to proceed was Javelin (throwing spears for a change!) - they are scouts, flexible and even though their range blows they can seriously hurt spears. The main issue is DPS - you have no damage really, spears can stand up to anything but the reality is they do very little damage, you want to rout units and win battles then spears are not your boys. Tiny place that recruits spears and slingers

To the North you have 2 Epirius towns you need to take (you start at war) To the east you have Athens - allied with Macedonia which means if you take either capital (Athens or Pella) you are boned. The main issue is that there is no easy capital to take which means ZERO TRADE Somewhere shitty is the short answer, on first views I was thinking - wow, I can't even get a region up and running! I know you figure out most of this stuff by just playing, at least to a moderate level, but I'd love to grasp some understanding of the mechanics beforehard. This thread is to tell you how I decided to do it and the rationale behind it - It is definitely not a definitive guide but I wanted to put what I had found down on for reference Diplomacy, internal politics, taxation, building strategies (both in one region, in one province and in the entire empire).Īlso battle mechanics, strategies and tactics because I suck and there is only one tactic I know and it is the one I always use: tank with swordsmen/spearmen and flank/rear charge with cavarly (of course I know the basic counters spears>cavalry, cavarly>infantry, swords>spears), but basically I am looking for management guides because it seems like battle tactic and strategy guides are easier to find around.

and which one to upgrade depending on what scenario. I would like to know more about general and agent attributes, technologies, etc. So basically I am looking for a guide that explain the game mechanics in detail and how you should tackle different problems. I have watched some helpful videos by HeirofCarthage and Hylor and they were pretty useful.

I am looking for any kind of guide, preferably on YouTube, but I don't mind following text guides in wikis or manuals. Recently I really felt like playing Rome II so I started a campaign playing as Rome, and this time I would like to really understand all aspects of the game and to know the dos and the don'ts. I have played the franchise intermittently since Medieval II up to Attila but in no case I have gotten closer to grasping a sort of in-depth understanding of the game mechanics (in terms of both battle and campaign management).
